The Hawaiian concept of pono refers to living in a state of balance, righteousness, and harmony with oneself, others, and the natural world. It emphasizes doing what is morally right, fair, and just, while maintaining integrity and respect in all actions. Pono is deeply connected to Hawaiian values of respect for the land, sea, and people, encouraging individuals to act responsibly and sustainably for the collective good, fostering peace, harmony, and ethical living.
After establishing its first ocean activity company in 2018, the Yonegan family of companies has dedicated all-volunteer Reef Rescue cruises semi-annually to help sustain the health of our local reefs system. In conjunction with the Kurt Leiber and Ocean Defenders Alliance, under the guidance of local dive enthusiast and sage Lloyd Johnson, Yonegan has helped retrieve and remove over two tons of cast away fishing lures, weights, traps, rebar and even an errant shopping cart. We’ve helped untangle and clear choking fishing lines in the hope of encouraging and nurturing the reef which has given so much to our local economy and way of life.
Please monitor this space for future opportunities to help in these efforts. Donations can be found through pre-dive links to GoFundMe campaigns. Comments and appreciation is always welcome to the many volunteers hoping to ensure and protect our local ocean habitat for our current and coming generations.
